Fat doesn’t make you fat; too many calories make you fat!

By UJ | In Diet + Health | on February 1, 2013

BUT… don’t think this means you should be filling your daily calorie quota with those oh-so-tasty baked and fried foods. Not only are they jam packed full of unnecessary calories; both of these foods contain trans fat.

Trans fat acts like saturated fat in the body and too much can increase your cholesterol levels, as well as your triglycerides (a type of fat found in your blood), both of which increase your risk of heart disease, but also stroke and diabetes.

Trans fat has also been shown to increase inflammation within your body by damaging the cells lining your blood vessels, so definitely steer clear if you’re recovering from any sort of injury.

Obviously we want to avoid hot chips and anything battered, but with baked goods the best solution is to make your own and use vegetable oil or fruit purée (apple is a great substitute) so you can control what you’re eating and skip the trans fats.
